Lovely Blog Award from LynLynSays

Almost a year ago, LynLynSays honored me with a Lovely Blog Award, for which I am very grateful.  (It’s about time I write this post!)  LynLyn has a very entertaining and cogent style of writing, and I can’t encourage you enough to read her posts.

Here are the rules:

  • You must thank person who nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • You must list the rules and display the award
  • You must add 7 facts about yourself
  • You must nominate 15 other bloggers

Seven Facts about Myself

N. B.  I have done so many of these awards that I’m not sure whether there is anything new I can tell you about myself.  Forgive me if the following sounds repetitive.

Nico of Earl and Fairy as he enjoys some scotch. He's possibly the most awesome cat in anime

  1. I can’t bring myself to try Japanese whisky–the Japanese version of scotch to be more precise.  My friend took me to a cigar and whisky bar during my recent visit, and two of his comrades tried some Hibiki Japanese Harmony.  (Yours truly was content with a Montecristo White Label cigar.)  It seems to run from $75 to $90 a bottle, which suffices to buy a bottle of either 15 or 18 year old single malt whisky from Scotland.  A 15 or 18 year old single malt beats a blend every time.  Even when you compare Japanese single malts to Scotch ones of the same age, one saves from fifteen to twenty dollars by buying from the Scottish.
  2. I am a mutt: my ethnic background stretches from Denmark to Peru including German, French, Swiss, English, American Indian, Venetian, Croatian, and Cuban.  So, when people ask me about my ethnic background, I often just say “American” unless I want to involve them in a long conversation.
  3. My Latin became so fluent in college that I was able to use the Canons of the Council of Frankfurt (794) in a research paper–quoting from the original Medieval Latin.  Times like that are when one really feels like a scholar. 🙂
  4. You know from my About Page that I went to the seminary for a short time.  My classmates who survived are all entering the clergy next year as deacons.  Tempus fugit!
  5. I first learned about Gene Wolfe from an upperclassman and Virginian aristocrat at the seminary.  (He might be the last of his kind, and this worthy man shall attain the title of “Father” next year.)  Everyone should read Latro in the Mist and The Book of the New Sun.  Wolfe might just be most intriguing American novelist of all time–and the man is not dead yet!
  6. Natsume Soseki is my favorite author of modern Japanese literature.  I have seven novels of his in the original Japanese on my bookcase.  One day, I really need to finish Inside My Glass Doors and work my way through the rest.
  7. I should end with something anime related, shouldn’t I?  All hoplophiles out there need to read Gunsmith Cats.  The four omnibus volumes published by Dark Horse count as some of my most prized manga.  No other manga has ever made me want to buy a pistol in 9mm Parabellum (the CZ 75).  Also, the three part OVA–famous for the accuracy of its depiction of Chicago–falls short of the quality of the manga, but it’s very entertaining also.

Thank you for the nomination! I’ve never been mentioned in another blog before, and on my birthday this post was published to top it off! God has a sense of humor 🙂

So since I know practically nothing about blog awards or posts of that nature, I just have to make a post according to those rules you stated above? And when I pick the other bloggers, can I pick you as one of the 15 or since you chose me I can’t chose you back? Sorry for the questions…God bless.

    • You’re welcome! Happy belated birthday! I’m glad that my post timed it so perfectly.

Yeah, just follow the rules above. Many people ignore the rule about nominating fifteen people and choose a smaller number. Technically, you could nominate me, but I’d prefer if you spread the award farther. 🙂
